SharePoint Online Connector Requirements (6.1.1)

Supported Microsoft 365 Licensing

The SharePoint Online Connector requires the following Microsoft 365 license levels:

  • Label-based Record Locking:

    • E5

    • G5

    • E3 + Purview Add-On

    • G3 + Purview Add-On

  • IPRM-based Record Locking (please see this advisory):

    • E3

    • G3

    • No new sites can be configured with In Place Record Locking after April

Note: The SharePoint Online Connector may work with other Microsoft 365 license levels and environments, but they are not supported by Gimmal.

Supported SharePoint Online Sites

Gimmal supports the following site templates:

SharePoint Online Sites (also known as Site Collections)

  • Communication Site

  • Team Site (can be part of Office 365 group)

  • Document Center

SharePoint Online Subsites

  • Team Site (Office 365 Groups not supported)

  • Document Center

Note: The SharePoint Online Connector may work with other types of sites; however, they have not been tested, and you may experience varying results.

In Place Records Management Feature

The “In Place Records Management” feature in SharePoint needs to be enabled for any Sites managed using the SharePoint Online Connector and Gimmal Records until the conversion of IPRM labels is completed. You should enable this feature for your Site before registering and configuring the SharePoint Online Connector.

Gimmal recommends against changing the default configuration settings for the “In Place Records Management” feature, as this may result in unexpected behavior.

Please contact your SharePoint system administrator for help enabling the “In Place Records Management” feature.

The above requirements are needed for the current version (6.1) of Gimmal Records SharePoint Online Connector. However, these requirements will be changing by April 2026. Please see this advisory regarding the end of support for IPRM functionality.
